Appreciating the conflicting demands leaders face, I am passionate about supporting you to increase success and decrease your challenges by gaining skills that aren’t mastered in the classroom. Whether you are looking for success negotiating the demands of greater leadership responsibilities, dealing with conflicts, or needing to heighten team and organization collaboration, my programs use an individualized approach that maximizes using your strengths while helping you gain the expertise you need to thrive.
Cathy’s lifelong passion for helping people surmount obstacles and expand their opportunities began with the strong sense of service that was instilled growing up in a clergy family. As an adult she found fulfillment in this through government leadership and medical practice, focused on improving the quality of other’s lives. For the last ten years she broadened this focus to help institutions, their leaders and employees expand their success and fulfillment at work; the place that captures so many hours of the day. Cathy's coaching also brings an understanding of the many cultures operating within the workplace and a sensitivity for diversity in the workforce. This awareness was heightened by adapting to diverse environments, from Hawaii to the East Coast and Europe as well as living in a multi-cultural home.
Cathy is a founding fellow of the Institute of Coaching, a board member of the Academy of Organizational and Occupational Psychiatry and has served on the advisory board of the Physician Coaching Institute. She is a member of the Physician Coaches Collaborative, a senior consultant for the Leadership Development Group and an executive coach for physician Executive MBA students. Additionally, Cathy is certified in coaching abrasive leaders by the Boss Whispering Institute.
Cathy is a board certified psychiatrist who trained at the Massachusetts General Hospital and led programs at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Butler Hospital. She currently maintains a private practice. She also sits on the board of Physicians Insurance. Cathy speaks on leadership, challenging conversations, giving feedback, and burnout prevention. Prior to medical school, she was an award winning broadcast journalist and honed organizational skills in government and political leadership.
Outside of work
Cathy enjoys family mountain hikes, swimming and sharing laughter and food with friends.
"Coaching was easier because you were a physician. You get it instantly when I focus on the heavy issues of medicine.”
“I am so grateful for your guidance and support. Your wisdom has been a key ingredient in my growth over the years. Atul Gawnde talks about coaching as critical for professionals, but what he doesn’t talk about is the quality of the coach. Thank you for being an incredible coach!”
“Cathy challenged my assumptions. She had me looking at what had been accomplished instead of looking at what hadn’t. That led me to make changes I hadn’t realized were possible.”
